What is an independent financial advisor?
Independent Registered Investment Advisers (RIAs) are professional, autonomous advisory firms dedicated to providing personalized financial guidance to clients with diverse and often complex financial needs. Their independence means they are not beholden to any specific family of funds or investment products, allowing them to offer unbiased advice. As fiduciaries, they adhere to a rigorous standard of care, committed to acting in their clients' best interests at all times. RIAs are registered with either the Securities and Exchange Commission or state securities regulators, ensuring they meet stringent regulatory requirements

What does being a Fiduciary mean?
A fiduciary is a trusted professional responsible for managing assets or wealth with a steadfast commitment to prioritizing the client’s best interests at all times. Financial advisors adhering to fiduciary standards are obligated to disclose any conflicts or potential conflicts to their clients both before and during the advisory relationship. They typically adhere to a strict code of ethics and provide full transparency regarding their compensation structure.
Where is my money kept?
At Stone Fortress Wealth, we utilize Schwab as the custodian of client accounts and as our primary broker. Our relationship with Schwab operates at arm’s length, with no direct exchange of funds between Schwab and our firm. When your account is established with Schwab, you grant us limited trading authorization, enabling us to execute trades directly within client accounts. When clients choose to invest in Alternative Investments, their funds may be held directly with the investment manager. Stone Fortress Wealth will not have access to these funds, similar to our arrangement with Schwab. Additionally, if clients use a self-directed Retirement Account Provider for investing in Alternatives, the funds remain with the Retirement Account Custodian and are subsequently sent to the underlying alternative investment manager. In our advisory role, we never take possession of client assets.
